Roses are red, violets are blue, but how can you use color to get more views?
When it comes to your business, color is crucial. Just think of how many businesses rely on a color connection. There are the golden arches of McDonald’s, the bright, shiny red of Coke. The Tiffany blue boxes from Tiffany’s, the immediate identifiable pink bags from Victoria’s Secret, and of course, the rainbow that is synonymous with Google.
Color choice and business success go hand in hand.
What do you want the colors associated with your business to say about you? How can your choice of colors help increase traffic to your website? What color choices will help translate that traffic into sales?
Here is a breakdown of color associations to help get you started:
- Use Red if the message you want to send is about being bold, active, and confident.
- Use Orange to communicate warmth, optimism, and spontaneity.
- Use Green to show growth, prosperity, and balance.
- Use Blue to communicate sincerity, calmness, and confidence.
- Use Purple for creativity, individualism, and compassion.
- Use Pink to show sensitivity, assertiveness, and respect.
Your color is your business
When choosing a color for your business make sure to keep in mind all the materials you will be using it on. Your color will be on business cards, signs, letterhead, and of course, on the internet.
Choose a color that will be unique and synonymous with your company, but make sure it is not a shade that is difficult to reproduce in any or all of these formats.
Also, consider using complementary colors or split-complementary colors. Complementary colors are colors that are located across each other on the color wheel. Think about the two colors associated with Christmas, red and green.
Split-complementary colors are colors located adjacent to the ones on the opposite side of the color wheel. We can look to another seasonal color scheme for an example. Think of Halloween colors. A bright yellow-orange pumpkin with a light green stem would look great on a purple background.
